Meet Oscar

Hi everyone! I’m Maria’s cousin, Oscar. I grew up in Dorchester and now I’m studying communications at a college in Boston.

 I’m excited about Maria’s site because for a long time I didn’t have a lot of information about sex, STDs, and HIV. I used to think that the only way to be really safe was to not have sex at all, but now I’ve learned that there are a lot of ways to have safer sex, so I wanted to talk to a counselor some more about how I could reduce my risks.

I’ve been seeing my boyfriend Jason for awhile now and things are going really well! We keep hearing about HIV/AIDS being a big problem, not just in gay relationships, but also becoming more common in black and Latino neighborhoods , so we wanted to learn more about what was going on! I’d never been tested before and I was pretty nervous; even though I didn’t think I was at risk  I really wanted to know for sure.

Jason and I went to the MALE Center in Boston together, which is one of many places you can go for free rapid testing (where you may get your results the same day) which made me feel better. We had a really great experience, and would definitely go back there (and tell our friends to go too), because HIV/AIDS is something we should all be talking about!l
